Achu: Then why do we have to put the father's name after our name instead of the mother's name???

To Market , to Market...

....to buy a new car

One sunny Sunday M and Achu went window shopping at their favorite shop. Oh yeah! The new swift had come to town and they had to have a look at it, feel it and have a ride.

The two of them were rather impressed with the new arrival.

M drooling : It had new headlights
Achu crooning : It had bigggg tyres and had sesth drive written on it ( That's how he pronounces test drive)

Oh Well ok so I ain't a car person so I wasn't very keen anyways when the two of them got back and narrated the whole scene

Then M told me Achu was talking in UK English ( courtesy: Mr.Bean series). He was requesting M to BUY the car. You heard it right ...he actually wanted to buy the car.

Achu: Acha please let's buy it. It's Lovely
M: No not now we don't have the money ( Giving out sheepish grins to the people around)
Achu: Let's go home and get the money
M: We have to convince Amma also Achu
Achu: Got all silent for sometime......then came close to M and asked loudly  "Acha convince yenocha yendhonu?" (what does convince mean?)
M:........Let's go........

Problem ...Problem.... Problem
Usual comments from teacher when I go to pick up Achu :

• He's ok
• He's smart
• No problem
• Good boy

So today was an unusual day.
Achu had his recitations today....Hindi and English
Hindi : He had to just read a few letters the teacher pointed at from the book.
Teacher : "He refused to open his mouth. I told the hindi miss that he is a smart boy and to give him more time so she let him go for awhile and called him back. But again he was silent. not a word. why?"
English: He had to recite a poem "Ferry me across the water"
Teacher: "He didn't do the english recitation also.Why what's wrong with him. talk to him please.I was shocked because he is so smart in his written work"
Ok so I get the picture. Reasons for the poor show...Achu's points and mine

• Achu is a showman ONLY at home
• I was lazy to revise the hindi alphabets with him. Honestly thought I'd do it this weekend. 
• I did get him to recite the poem. He does it so well at home. Expressive, but does forget here and there.
• The teacher had mentioned his english recitation would be due only next week...so why the hurry?...I thought I'd do it a couple of times during the weekend

Asked the teacher if she would re-assess.....

She said " Noway. I think he has to improve on those lines. There's noway we can do it again."

Why do I have this guilt feel in me?

Isn't he just in the first term of first grade?

Oh! Achu I hope to get you to do your work on a daily basis rather than waiting for the last day...

Another of the guys is swimming alone in the pool
Achu: (Turns around and asks sympathetically) Evende penn yevadhey? (Where is this one's gal?)

I went out with friends and was back. I had a little kajal on.The bare minimum.

Achu: Make up ellam ittitu evadhey poitu varinu? (Where have you been with all that make up on??)

When I started yoga classes

Achu: Yendhinamma meliyinedhu. Ippothane kolamello?( why do you want to slim down you are fine the way you are?)

Every morning and when back from school

Achu: Why do I have to tell you every day to keep my milk ready ? (Amplified voice and frowny face)

My SIL is having her second kid in June.We met her recently with her big tummy.
Achu: Amma why is Apatchi at Atchamma's house?
Me: She is going to have a baby that's why...
Achu: But Appu is so small then how come she has a baby already ( Appu is 4 and a half )
Me: That doesn't matter da....Didn't you see her tummy...it's big
Achu: Amma your tummy is also big
Me: errr....( gym round the corner here I come...)

me: What!!!!!!.....(getting slightly dizzy)
Achu: If I spray that then you will come to me right? you are a girl. I don't need to shout out a hundred times. It will be easy.
me: ohhhhh! (relieved but has a tiny doubt on his intentions ;b)

India vs West Indies Match going on. Everybody watching seriously.

Achu: Amma do girls play cricket?
me: Yes they do
Achu: what do they wear?
me: The same thing men wear....(wondering where this is heading to)
Achu: after a lot of thinking.....but they will have a line in between no?

Appy New Year

Happy New Year Moms and the rest of your world :)

Its been awhile since I blogged and commented on the year end blogs that overflowed in the virtual world. I read all of them but couldn't comment.

Achu and I had a lovely new year with cousins

Lots of  blogable stuff happened ...

L (achu's cousin): I need to get some shades
G (achu's mama): why do you need shades?
Achu: To wear it on Sunday

Me: Sunny days need shades :):):)

Achu shouts out loudly while munching an apple
"Apple one day doctor gooooo away"
"Apple a day makes a man healthy wealthy and wise"

Achu is 5 and a half ...his tooth is shaking
The new tooth has started coming out
Went to a doc and he said things are just fine and the milkies will drop once the originals grow
I lost my teeth and was toothless here and there for awhile before growing my next set
This is how it works now!!!!!

Watch your word

Me: What did you do in school today ?
Achu continues to do and say which doesn't have the slightest relevance to my question....
Me: ACHU WHAT DID YOU DO IN SCHOOL TODAY....?????
Achu: huh! what........
Me: ( let me give it a different approach) Achu what snack did they give you today?
Achu: hmmmmmmmmm! samosa and biscuit
Me: ( Ok we have a related answer...here goes) Ok good so what did the teacher write on the board?...First tell me about maths....
Achu: Come I'll show you on my board.....
Me: YES :):):):)
Achu picks up a chalk and says "Amma, Before and After"
I wonder if my son is reminding me about the weight loss regime I registered for months ago ...with a slim chance of me attending it ( the only thing that's slim in the deal )
Then I figure out that it is just the "What's missing in the sequence" question
We do a couple of rounds of it and then I ask " Achu what did you do in English baby?"
"go,so, to, no" he wrote on the board
 Sheri (ok).. let's make sentences

We took turns in writing them
And Achu boy was good at it :)
We finished all the four words... two each
Now Achu said he wanted to do the words he didn't get to do
And I gladly agreed
And then.....
" Achu now your turn ...'No' "
Achu wrote " No. Not go in"
"No, No, No Achu that is wrong... correct it or find another sentence"
Achu: Ok Amma I will....
He rushes to the board and writes "No.No.No."
Me: !!!!!!!
Achu: You just said that Amma (very pleased)
Me: Smarty pants ....Huggy-buggy :)

Double U

Yesterday Achu had dictation at school and he didn't do very well. His teacher sent word that Achu boy needs to get his alphabets right.

Oh don't worry am not worried at all. The boy is five...give him some time. But I just wanted to check if its concentration he lacked or he really didn't know the alphabets. So Achu had night school yesterday with Me as his Teacher.

Me: Ok Children take out your book and pencil and write the letter W
Achu: Amma...oops Miss look I wrote W
Me: Good Boy ...sanjay stop talking and write like Rohit ..Achu smiles...me too :)

Achu: Now tell me Miss why do we call W... Double U when we write Double V
Me: Hmmmmm Actually W is Double U but we write Double V...we can also write Double U..but in school your taught to write Double V ok...Phew!
Achu: Ok .....( thoughtfully)
Me: (Happy achu is happy with the explanation)....Ok next letter P
Achu: So At home we will call W Double V and in school we will call W Double U OK
Me: ( I knew something was coming)....Fine write the next letter P

We will have a detailed talk on the Double UV some sunny sunday baby !

BTW Achu got all the alphabets right. Concentration in class is what my boy needs to work on.

I have been asked to meet the teacher tomorrow....Am quite experienced at it now...let's see how it goes :)

Ouch! Bolt from the blue

Haven't been blogging about my lil boy since I have been busy at work and class all through the week. But Achu boy has never stopped suprising us with his instant reactions to the otherwise uninteresting conversations we have.

M and Achu get into the car...
Achu ....swaying side to side and not remaining still
M.... The 'grrrr moment' jus moments away

Achu : In an irritated tone "Yendhu cheyane Achu kutta" ( What are you Doing Achu boy?)
Acha looks at me and bursts out laughing...I grin :)

M was at my MIL's whole of last week since she was alone at home and the rest of them had gone to our native. We were discussing about when all of them were returning and when the car should go to pick them from the station while achu was busy playing around....until suddently achu turns and says....
"Ohhhoooo Acha appo inni acha U turn edhithitu veetiva" (So Acha you come back home taking a U turn...since the rest of them have come)

Me and MIL discussing about a cousin. I was telling her how thin ( as in slim) the cousin had become and that she was looking good...suddenly achu pops out of no where and says" Amma I thought you told me being thin was bad...ippomathram thin good innu parayinnu???" ( and now your telling thin is good)...coff !coff!

Achu loves to role play.....and this time he was me :)

He took one of my dupattas and put it like I usually do and walked around the house.


"Achu odheley" (achu don't run)

I interupt " bashe night ayilley office illelo?" ( but you don't have office at night?)

" Idhu night duty annu"( this is night duty)

Then he takes my phone and starts to talk

I whine " Amma phone vekku amma" ( Amma please keep the phone )

" Achu idhu important call annu shhhhh " ( this is an important call )

Achu: Adhuthaneee amma (That's what I want)...getting a bit restless and angry now...

I scan the little brain to decipher the request...and ta-da..

Achu : Aaaaa Thaneeeee ( Aaaa yessssss) very relived but angry and wondering why amma is so dumb

Smile and I shall read

I knew by the look on Achu's face that he didn't want me to go to Delhi. When I was ready and gave him a hug his face didn't have that smile ...that smile of excitement...that smile that said "Amma I'll be fine with Ammumma and Appuppa "....His face had " I'll miss you" all over it...Knowing his face was mirroring his heart he washed the expression off in moments and told me "Amma marakhadhey train vayinchitu vareneeee.........."(Don't forget to buy me a train)...I nodded and left half heartedly....

We had to go to Delhi this week on an official assigment but the fog in Delhi got worse and our flight got cancelled :):)..When we got back home achu was asleep....I kissed him and gave him a hug:)

The next morning Achu gave me the smile I wanted....The Real Smile ...of joy...of contentment....and I reciprocated right from my heart ....
Achu: Amma yendh patti?...( what happened?)
Me: Bad weather so the plane didn't take off
Achu: Bigggg Smile and a huggy-buggy moment ...sighhhhh

Later during the day we were to go to M's place and so was getting dressed
Achu: evadhey ponnu amma ( where are u going?)
Me: Arinjudhe? ( don't you know?)
Achu : Najannum varinaaa ( Am I also coming?) - his face lost its initial smile beacuse he had my Delhi trip still in his tiny mind and heart and thought I was getting dressed to go to Delhi.
Me: Monnu we are going to Achacha's house get dressed now ...fassst
Achu: There was that smile I always crave for...yet again

Achu...Amma loves you so much and can read your mind and heart with equal precision
Just smile and I shall read......... 

The Digestive Theory

One night during the routine 'su-su' session:

We have a mixie inside
When we eat the food goes into the mixie and goes round and round and then we have 'motion'
When we drink water there is a yellow mug inside that pours the water into the mixie and we have 'yellow su-su'
When we drink lotsa water there is another mug which pours water into the mixie and we have 'white su-su'

And a wee bitta maths in science to make things more interesting

Su-su is equal to one
Motion is equal to five...no not the usual two

Update : When Achu had a tummy ache

As we grow taller the mugs we have increase in number....So Amma has more mugs than Achu ...Each mug has one color.... Now all the colors are in the mixie that's why Achu's having a tummy ache

Being Four and Achu

Innocently Wise

Achu was playing his rough boy games with me and I was losing the very little patience I have.....Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

Me: Achu Stop it now ( in a stern voice)
Achu was jumping all over me and my poor Acha and Amma were 'requesting' my son to let me go
Usually when am in one of those rare good moods I tickle out of the situation but this time I was dirty, tired...and most importantly HUNGRY

Me: Achuuuuuu....go njan ponnu e roomilirunu....( Am going outta this room)....and I slowly got up and went away to another room....

Amma: Achu amma deivam annu da...shouldn't stamp or hit God (Achu amma is God)
Achu: adhu yennganey! ( howzzat!)
Amma: haven't u heard Matha, Pitha, Guru  Deivam.....So Amma is God....even Your Girija Miss is God...She is your Guru...understand?
Achu thought for a while then he started climbing on Amma and Acha who was a silent spectatur to the whole show....
Amma: Ayyoooo idhu yedhoannu kutta ( What is this)
Achu : (Triumphantly) ...Adhilu ammumma yium appupanum illeloooooo ( the list doesn't include ammumma and appupa)
Amma : !!!!!!!!

Then I entered to save my parents and said
Me: Achu stop it da...dha nokku God Vannirikunnu ( see God has come )...and I struck a devi pose :):):)
Achu: Ohhh idhu Amma allleyyy ( Oh you are jus Amma)
Achu: I know God is inside ALL of us......
Now that's really deep

Grey Matters

After lunch Achu darling was taking the role of spiderman cleaning the sofa ...we have celebrities doing it for us :)..jumping from one seat to another with no special effects mind u....except for the viewers missing a beat now and then...sigh!

And we begin...
Me: Achu what do we do with our brains?
Achu: almost instantly ...think think think....tiger parayuley(doesn't the tiger say that)
Me: :):):):):) (Pleased with the answer and the 'information' derived from the cartoon Winnie the pooh)

Science lesson for the day - Done:D

Ah! The Charmer

Amma wasn't in town for a couple of days so was handling ALOT of things (The worlds best Manager happens to be my mom)...Achu loves to have his fish and chicken....The first thing he scans for on his platter is for the high protien / omega-3 fatty acid food. So I have to pick up some NV when I go get him from school...go home and cook it for him for lunch....

Today I did just that...fried a piece of fish and placed it on his plate
when he came in for lunch...
Achu: sniff sniff...hmmmmmmmmmmm yummy
Me : endha da ( what da?)
Achu: Fichhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :):):):)
Me: yessssssssss :):):)
Achu : (started eating the fish and rice with so much ethusiasum)
Suddenly he stopped looked at me and
Achu: Thank you amma for the fich...(in a sing-a-song-way) sooooperarikunnu
Me: Awwwwww kutttaa ur welcome
